Signs of a Fraudulent App
- Poor grammar or spelling errors in the app description
- Unrealistic claims, features, or promises
- Very few reviews — or suspiciously perfect 5-star reviews
- Requests for unnecessary permissions (camera, SMS, contacts, banking info)
How to Stay Safe
- Download apps only from official stores (Google Play, Apple App Store)
- Check the developer details, app history, and genuine reviews
- Avoid clicking links from SMS, email, or social media ads
- Use trusted mobile security software on your device
- If You Think You Installed a Fake App
Uninstall the app immediately
- Reset passwords for any sensitive accounts
- Run a full malware scan on your device
- Report the app to the app store and notify your bank
